Women's Center Events - Spring 2010

-Vagina Monologues: February 19th at 7pm and February 20th at 2pm and 7pm in the BMU Auditorium

This production of "The Vagina Monologues" is based on the Obie Award-winning play by Eve Ensler. The Women's Center is proud to participate in V-day, a global movement to end violence against women and children.

-Gender Bending Fashion Show: March 25th in BMU Auditorium

The Gender Bending Fashion Show is a production to combat social norms and society constructed gender scripts. Be free to be who you are and be comfortable in your clothes. Come strut with us!

-The Red Tent: April 3rd at Student Services Center, Room 304

The Red Tent is a multi-generational gathering for food, drink and sharing of our lives as women - our questions, worries, laughs, scars and accumulated insight. NOTE: This is a collaborative event with the Counseling and Wellness Center.

-Women's Studies/Women's Center Conference: Saturday, April 3rd in Student Services Center 304

The Annual Women's Conference is a one-day event focusing on contemporary feminist theory and issues. The conference features a keynote address by Megan Seely, author of Fight Like a Girl, How to Be a Fearless Feminist and smaller workshops presented by Chico State professors, community members and non-profit organizations located in Northern California.

-Spring Take Back the Night: April 29th at BMU Common Grounds & Trinity Commons

Take Back the Night is an opportunity for students and community members to come together and recognize the ongoing issue of violence against women and rape culture, specifically sexual assault and domestic/dating violence.

-The Maggie Awards: May 13th at the Women's Club at 7pm

The Maggie Awards originated in 1994 as a way for the AS Women's Center and women's council to recognize Maggie Pattison, an office manager for the Associated Students. After her retirement in 1994, Pattison's legacy lives on through women in the community. The Maggie Award ceremony is  held to honor women's achievements through their advocacy and ability to create change on a local, national and global level.
