We reward Chico State students for using their own reusable cup or mug through the B.Y.O.Cup Campaign. Discounts, prize drawings and kudos go to those who take a stand against disposable cups!
In 2006, 16 billion disposable paper cups were thrown away in the U.S. This is the equivalent of:
- 253 million lbs. of solid waste sent to landfills
- 6.5 million trees being cut down
- Wasting 4 billion gallons of water
- Enough energy to power 53,895 homes for a year

Did you know that the insulating polyethylene lining inside the cup makes these cups non-recyclable? Furthermore, when polyethylene is heated it leaches toxins like phthalates (endocrine disruptors) and other carcinogens into your beverage.
