What's the difference, if there is any, between a Muay Thai boxing glove and a regular one?
Muay Thai gloves have more flexibility than other boxing gloves because in Muay Thai, the fighter needs to have the ability to use his hands to grab his opponent to do the knee strikes.
If you could do college over, what would you do differently?
I wouldn't have been so self-limiting. I really wanted to study a subject that would have been very difficult for me; I chose an easier route but regret that I didn't shoot for my original interests - hard work or not.
What kind of advice or things should you say to encourage someone who doesn't know what to do in their life?
First, I would tell the person that most people don't know what to do with their lives (even the ones who seem to have it all together). I would encourage the person to explore ALL opportunities and maybe try something they had never thought of doing. I would also encourage the person to contact the Career Center for aptitude testing that might show his/her strengths and interests and help guide decisions.

What is Adventure Day Camp?
It is a summer day camp for children ages 6-12. For more details or to sign up, go to Adventure Day Camp.
What is the best way to get involved with the student government at Chico State?
If you are interested in becoming involved, a great first step is to join a committee or council. The commitment is minimal, often no more than two hours per week. Positions are generally filled at the beginning of the fall semester for each academic year. Contact GAC at 898-5701 for more information.

What if Chico State was hit by a natural disaster - would school be canceled?
Chico State has a well-developed and well-practiced disaster preparedness plan. School would be canceled if officials believed there was a threat to students and staff.
Why was the Multicultural Affairs Council established?
The council was originally created to give a voice to underrepresented students at Chico State. The council did things like establish two events that are still hosted by the council; Multicultural Night and International Festival. The council was also responsible for organizing flags from different countries to be hung in the BMU. Each flag was representative of all countries that students have come from. These are just a few of the things the council first initiated. Eventually the council was given a budget of $3,000 for 3 main student organizations to program and plan events. These groups were M.E.Ch.A, Pan African Union, and the American Indian Club; the only culturally based organizations that were on campus at the time. Now, over 30 years later, the council has a annual budget of $40,000 that is allocated to student organizations to put on events and programs that have a cultural focus and/or foundation. Due to the increased support from the Associated Students, the number of %u201Cculturally%u201D based student organizations as grown to about 40!
Why don't you guys create a Chico State app?
Great idea. I suspect someone on campus already has that on their "to do" list but, as far a I can tell, there isn't one yet.

If your cell phone is the type that can go on the Internet, is it possible for it to catch a virus?
Yes, smart phones or Internet enabled phones can be subjected to viruses. Granted there are far fewer viruses tailored to phones but they exist.
What should I get my mom for her birthday?
Something small, inexpensive and personal. A photo of you having fun in college? A note reminding her of some fun time you had together? A book you think she'd like? Most moms don't want anything fancy - just something that shows you love her enough to remember her birthday.
Why are there so many R1 parking spaces that take away parking from the students?
That question can best be answered by UPD as they oversee all of the parking on campus. They can be reached at 898-5555. Also, you might pass your concerns on to the Transportation Committee.
AS Mission Statement?
The purpose of the Associated Students is to enrich the quality of campus life at California State University, Chico and to complement the educational mission of the university providing full actualization of the university experience through student governance, Bell Memorial Union facilities, a broad spectrum of programs, services and integral campus commercial enterprises.
What if you fail two classes in your first year and your GPA falls below 1.7 - do you get kicked out? Or can you retake the classes?
I believe you are placed on academic probation and get a semester to improve your GPA. Contact Advising at 898-5712 about your specific situation. Good luck and remember you're not the first freshman to have a rough first semester.

Yes it is.
Do you have to sign up for the group exercise in the WREC?
The majority of our classes are free and don't require any sign up. The only ones you have to register for are the ones that have been labeled extra fee. Otherwise, just show up ready to work out!

What if I decided to transfer to a community college? Would it be difficult?
Not at all. Community colleges have an open enrollment policy that allows anyone to attend.
What's the best product to strengthen hair?
Okay, I give. I guess we don't know it all :)
What are the best hours to go to the Student Heath Center, so as to not wait in a very long line?
The best thing to do is make an appointment, which you can do online at STUDENT HEALTH. However, sometimes you need to see a doctor right away. In that case, go right at 8:00am (every day except Wed. when they open at 9:15).
If you were from a university and wanted to transfer out to a different university, would the transfer be difficult?
That depends on a bunch of factors - does the other university have a program that yours doesn't, is it hard or easy to get into, do you have enough units, etc. Your best bet is to contact the new university's admissions office, which can answer all your questions.
How can I start a sports club?
Contact Student Activities at 898-5396 to start any new club.
Why are AS workers limited to 20 hours a week?
Because the AS wants you to work and wants you to gain experience, but it also wants you to keep your main focus on school and schoolwork. The University has the same policy for student employees.
Can people without meal plans eat in the Sutter Hall dining area?
Yes, and you should - the food is excellent. It is $8.75 (cash only) per meal and includes drink and choices from several different food stations. You can find this week's menu at SUTTER MENU
How could Chico State afford a new walkway next to the SSC, but couldn't help my major's budgets from being cut? (which concluded with my favorite prof. quitting)
Great question! The money for the Student Services Center Plaza came from general obligation bonds, approved by voters, specifically intended for higher education capital projects and cannot be used for faculty salaries. This is the funding source for all new construction in coming years.

I want a job on campus!
The two places you should check are the AS Student Jobs listing and the Student Employment Office. It's fair to say that most campus jobs come out of those two offices.

Where can I go to research more about my major and compare it with others?
I would start with the Career Center (898-5253). They have drop in hours from 1-4:00pm; you can chat with an adviser about different options.
