Dayna Silveira, Head Teacher - Modoc Room

I have been at the AS Child Development Lab since the spring semester of 1996. I began as a volunteer and the following semester became a student staff. As I continued to work toward my Bachelors degree in Liberal Studies, I remained a student employee. I graduated in the spring of 1999 with my Bachelors degree in Liberal Studies and minors in Child Development, Psychology, and Family Relations. After completing the bulk of my work in elementary education and dabbling in child development, I soon discovered that I enjoyed working with younger children. The fall after I graduated one of the teachers in the Purple Room went out on maternity leave and I was asked to cover while she was out. Covering for that teacher soon turned into a career and I have been fortunate enough to continue to work within the program. Once I became a full-time teacher, I went back to Butte and completed my education in Child Development and currently hold my Director Level Permit. I also went back to school briefly and began work on my Masters. At the present time I am not enrolled in classes, but often attend events that are related to the field of Early Childhood Education. When I am not at work I can be found in Bidwell Park or downtown socializing with friends and family. I have come to love Chico and truly embrace all that it has to offer.
